Born and raised in a family deeply entrenched in the construction industry, the author's early exposure to building sites ignited a profound interest in engineering. His childhood curiosity paved the way for a career in Civil/Irrigation Engineering, culminating in his graduation with a degree in 1996.
Driven by a thirst for knowledge, he embarked on a journey of continuous learning and professional development. This pursuit led him to earn a BScEng degree from esteemed institutions such as The University of Arba-Minch (Ethiopia), followed by an MScEng from The University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). He further pursued doctoral studies at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, and obtained a Postgraduate Certificate from Ecole Polytechnique Federal de Lausanne (EPFL) / University of Geneva (Switzerland), along with other certificates from various institutions.
In parallel with his academic endeavors, Mesfin honed his practical skills through hands-on engineering assignments. Engaging in diverse projects, he gained valuable experience in design hydrology, catchment studies, flood routing, building construction, irrigation infrastructure, groundwater studies, and small-scale earth dam construction.
Proficient in a wide array of engineering instruments and software programs, he is adept at utilizing tools such as Total-station and Theodolites, alongside software packages including Revit, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, QGIS, QSWAT, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Bentley Software (civil-storm, pond pack, Flow master), IDRISI, PCI-Geomatica, and others.
As a holder of prestigious titles such as the European Engineer Title (EUR ING) and a Certified Civil Engineer in Canton Geneva (MPQ), he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table. With a focus on hydrologic design, dam and irrigation infrastructure, and building construction supervision, he is poised to make significant contributions to the field of engineering.
